At the opening of the exhibition of poetic worlds in boxes

In the Cultural Center Neustrelitz on May 13, 2004
A greeting from Juliane Lorenz

Dear Lilly,

For me, the fascination for your speakers began some time before I acquired my first, the "Pope's Palace", because whenever I came to you in Berlin in the Goltzstrasse and discovered one of you just finished new magic box, I was amazed not out. And because I wanted to be amazed not only at home, but also with me, I then kidnapped you the "Papal Palace". And with that began my collector's passion, which never ends today. Meanwhile, there are already thirteen boxes, which are located in the rooms of the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation and in my private home and attract not only me, but many new marveling.

At the beginning you did not like to be separated from your speakers, because they were familiar testimonies of "shutdown phases" between your obligations as sound engineer, filmmaker and lecturer at the German Film Academy in Berlin. The over one hundred surviving testimonies of these retreat phases are not only imaginative masterpieces of craftsmanship, but also the result of years of collecting cases, boxes, boxes, containers and other objects, which you by a unique reorganization and assembly, say: composition, in a new form transforming into a pictorial and objective narrative.

The "Phonebook" from 1995, for example, one of your first lightboxes, and the second achievement of my collection, basically consists of only three elements: a pine box, a few pages of an old Berlin phonebook, and Fernande Khnopff's motif "I look my door upon myself ". For hours you can stand to study private listings and business addresses with the corresponding telephone numbers from the seventies and delve into the angelic face of the Khnopff motive. I have not discovered any astonishment that just passes this box.

And when I think of hammering and sawing, filing and nailing, of the nights you spend in your home workshop and only then settle down when a new box takes shape and turns more and more into what you say The basic idea was, if this new magic box is ready at some point at dawn and you are relieved and satisfied and at the same time exhausted, then I wish you that you spend quite a lot of nights in this way. So that not only me, but many new collectors and viewers bring your magic to your home and continue to tell their stories.
